Code of Conduct
Machine Code of Conduct
1. Each athlete is responsible for his/her own behavior and will be held accountable for
his/her own actions.
2. Any action deemed a violation of the Code of Conduct is subject to punishment which
includes, but is not limited to, removal from one or more days swimming events,
immediate return home at swimmer’s expense, or dismissal/suspension from Machine Aquatics.
3. No athlete will be permitted to travel with Machine Aquatics or represent Machine
Aquatics unless a Medical Release Form has been signed.
4. All athletes traveling in team-sponsored buses, vans etc. will wear seat belts, when
available, and stay seated at all times.
5. Possession of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, weapons, fireworks, adult material or any other
illegal item will result in the athlete’s immediate return home and possible dismissal from
Machine Aquatics.
6. Athletes bunking in hotels, motels, condos or with host families shall abide by the
lodging’s rules.
a. Athletes will remain in rooms after curfew.
b. 12 + under athletes will follow the stated “light’s out” time.
c. Males and females will NOT BE ALLOWED in each other’s rooms under any
circumstance.
d. Telephone calls to outside of the hotel shall be made only with credit cards or
calling cards. All calls charged to rooms will be billed directly to athlete’s parents and a
$10.00 processing fee will be assessed. Please ask Coaches or Chaperones for
assistance with international calls.
e. Athletes shall respect the lodging’s property and employees and any roommate’s
property.
f. Running, climbing and general noisiness are prohibited.
7. During the competition, Athletes are required to stay in designated Team areas, including
deck-level restrooms, warm-up areas etc. when not competing. If it is necessary to leave
the designated areas, a Coach must be told first.
8. Athletes will be allowed to return home with parents/guardians only after a face-to-face
confirmation with a Coach.
9. Athletes will wear Machine Team Apparel while traveling, at meals, and on deck whether
competing or not.
This Code of Conduct is written to ensure athletes represent themselves, their
families, Machine Aquatics, Potomac Valley and USA-Swimming with honor and
class and to keep athletes safe and healthy for optimum performance.
