Tanya Chang, Head Site Coach

tanya@machineaquatics.com

Tanya swam competitively starting in the sixth grade and in high school qualified for the Pennsylvania State Championships and YMCA Nationals. In addition, she qualified for and medaled at Division III Nationals while swimming for the Johns Hopkins University. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. and completed graduate work at the George Washington University. Tanya worked for the Federal Government for several years before becoming a full-time mom and teacher for her three kids. While she started out coaching for a couple of years for the Nittany Lions Aquatic Club while at Penn State, she has been coaching in the Loudoun County area since 2017 and the 2023-2024 season will be her second year with the Machine Aquatic family. In the summers, she is the head coach of the Woodlea Watermocs, an ODSL summer swim team in Loudoun County. She loves the sport of swimming and wants to pass on that enthusiasm, dedication, and love of the sport to the younger swimmers.

Hello! I am so excited to join the Machine family and work with swimmers again who live in Leesburg and Loudoun County! It is hard to believe but I have over 25 years of experience in the swimming / coaching profession! I am originally from Fairfax County where I grew up swimming in PVS and in the NVSL. My coaching career began at the Fairfax Station Flyer pool as a assistant coach.  Graduating from Paul VI High School I went on to swim at Ohio University! After graduation I was fortunate enough to coach at both Ashland University and Youngstown State University. Missing the NOVA area I returned home and went to graduate school at Marymount University. I returned to coaching in PVS and after moving to Loudoun County my husband and I began coaching in the local summer league, ODSL. I currently work at Ida Lee Recreation Center as the Assistant Sports and Recreation Supervisor. I am still active in the water myself, competing in triathlons and open water competitions plus running. My husband, who is a head coach for a local swim team, we have 3 young swimmers of our own plus 3 cats living in the Town of Leesburg!

Tasha Erickson

My name is Tasha Erickson and I was born and raised in Minnesota and moved to northern Virginia 2 years ago. I grew up in the land of 10,000 lakes, therefore we were swimming, whether in a pool, lake or river. I swam fly and free through my high school years along with teaching swim and lifeguarding. I competed in numerous triathlons into my adult years with swimming being my favorite part.

Upon moving to Virginia, we learned summer swim teams were a thing and we enrolled all 3 of our kids to help them improve their strokes. After their first year, I was asked to join as an assistant coach to their summer swim team. This past summer I was able to coach and really enjoyed being on the deck, helping kids with their swim strokes. We had our first experience with Machine this past March and fell in love with the focus on stroke technique and mechanics.

Outside of Machine, I am a wife, mom of 3, and a nurse. If I’m not on the pool deck, I’m likely at a sport practice or game for my kids.

I am so excited to be a part of the Machine coaching staff to help kids thrive in the sport of swimming. It’s something I hold near and dear to my heart.
