Jason Cochran - Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming & Site Director

jason@machineaquatics.com

I’m Jason Cochran, Assistant Director of Competitive Swimming for Machine Aquatics. I’ve been coaching since 2004 and joined Machine in 2016. I primarily lead the National Prep Group at Oakmont Rec Center and work with our National Team, but I also enjoy visiting all our sites throughout the year. I grew up in New Jersey as a three-sport athlete (swimming, baseball, soccer) and started teaching swim lessons in high school. That’s also when I launched my own summer swim team—and I’ve been hooked on coaching ever since. I swam competitively through high school and earned All-Conference honors along the way. I’m a proud West Virginia University grad with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Spanish minor. My coaching career has taken me from NJ to CT, TX, and now here at Machine, where I’ve coached swimmers of all levels—from 8 & Unders to Olympic Trials qualifiers. I’ve also had the honor of coaching at several USA Swimming Select Camps, including serving as Head Coach for the 2022 Eastern Zone Select Camp and serving as Assistant Coach at the 2024 Boys National Select Camp. My coaching philosophy is all about building good habits, accountability, and life lessons through swimming. I coach the full swimmer—every stroke, every distance—and aim to challenge each athlete to grow in and out of the pool. Outside of the pool, I’m a huge sports fan (WVU, Notre Dame Football, Mets, Giants, Devils), a WWE enthusiast, and have never met a buffalo wing that I have said no to. Coaching is a huge part of my life, but these passions keep me balanced and energized.

Dylan Cudahy - Site Director, Tysons One Life & Oakmont High Performance & Age Group Director

I’m Dylan Cudahy, and I’ve been coaching with Machine Aquatics for the past three years—but my connection to this team goes way back. I actually swam with Machine for six years (after starting with the Virginia Gators) and still hold team records in the Long Course 400 IM and 1500 freestyle. Safe to say, swimming has been a big part of my life for a long time. I believe in building swimmers up for long-term success—focusing on discipline, attention to detail, and loving the process. For me, it’s never just about the yards or the clock. It’s about the effort you bring and the intention behind what you do every day. That’s where real growth happens. I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2021, where I studied systems engineering and environmental science. Even with that background, I probably spend more time thinking about swimming than I should—but I can’t help it. I’ve been coaching in one way or another since high school, and there’s nothing better than seeing a swimmer’s hard work pay off. Watching athletes chase down their goals and gain confidence along the way is what keeps me coming back to the pool every day.

Daniel Gyenis - Developmental Age Group Coach

danielg@machineaquatics.com

I’m Daniel Gyenis, a Developmental Coach with Machine Aquatics, entering my second season with the team. I bring eight years of coaching experience at the club, high school, and NVSL levels, and I’m passionate about combining technical knowledge with motivational leadership on the pool deck.

As a swimmer, I competed for Oakton High School, where I was a state champion and record holder. I continued my swimming career at the University of Virginia, where I was a three-time ACC scorer and twice named to the All-ACC Academic Team. I also hold team records at Machine Aquatics from my own time as a swimmer.

I graduated from UVA with a degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Business. After college, I worked as an environmental scientist while coaching part-time with Machine.

My coaching philosophy centers around teaching swimmers to move more efficiently in the water. I focus on positive reinforcement and bring high energy and enthusiasm to every practice to help athletes stay motivated and confident in their development.

Outside the pool, I enjoy playing basketball, cooking, and spending time outdoors—especially hiking with my dog, Roscoe.
