Hi! I’m Coach Brian, and I’ve been part of the Machine Aquatics coaching staff for the past three years. If you’ve ever been to a meet, you’ve probably seen me—the big guy in the camo hat calling for timers!
I grew up swimming competitively in MCSL, PVS (RMSC), and later in college at Frostburg State University. Along the way, I earned multiple MCSL records, won a gold medal at Zones representing PVS, and set school records at Frostburg.
My coaching philosophy is simple: technique, technique, and more technique. I believe in making swimming both fun and challenging—because the sport not only builds strong swimmers but also teaches life-long skills and values.
I truly believe Machine is a special program. My daughter swims here too, and I wouldn’t want her anywhere else. The positive environment fosters growth, confidence, and community—helping kids become great swimmers and even better people.

Rachel’s love for swimming began when she joined her local YMCA team during middle school. She quickly realized swimming was the only sport she wanted to continue with through high school which is when she joined Excel Aquatics in Nashville. During her time on Excel, she qualified for the TN High School State Championship meet every year in the 200 and 500 free, placed top 10 at state regions, qualified for the Southeastern USA Swimming Championships in the 1650, and competed in numerous open water events. She attended Western Kentucky University where she co-founded the triathlete club and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Public Relations and Political Science. Rachel ended up working in politics and met her husband, Tyler, on Capitol Hill. They now live in Hamilton, VA with their two children. After her political career and becoming a stay-at-home mom, Rachel found her way back to aquatics as a swim instructor at the Ida Lee Recreation Center in March of 2024. Since being back in the pool, Rachel picked up where she left off and has been actively training and competing in open water events throughout the area. She’s very excited to be back with a competitive swim team in this role and is eager to bring her passion for swimming and kids to the Machine coaching staff.
